Protein powder without gums

Protein powder without gums means no xanthan, guar, cellulose gum, gellan, carrageenan, or similar thickeners on the ingredient list. Brands add gums so shakes look creamy. Some people prefer a short label without them, or notice that long additive lists coincide with stomach discomfort. This page lists short-label powders that skip gums, and how to spot gums hiding in blends.

Disclosure: I run Cantein. Our powders do not use gums. That is a label fact, not a claim that gums are unsafe for everyone.

No xanthan or guar • Short ingredient lists • Checker for your tub • Shop Cantein

Gums to look for

  • Xanthan gum, guar gum, cellulose gum / carboxymethylcellulose
  • Gellan gum, locust bean gum, carrageenan
  • Sometimes "gum blend" in parentheses under natural flavors

Acacia (gum arabic) is also a gum; some fiber products use it on purpose. Cantein's Protein + Fiber blend uses organic acacia for fiber. Plain Cantein protein powders do not. Paste any label into the ingredient checker.

Short-label picks without gums

Pick Protein Gums Other notes
Cantein Unflavored 28g / 35g hemp None 1 ingredient, USDA Organic
Cantein Vanilla or Chocolate 22g / scoop hemp None Organic monk fruit; 0g added sugar
Naked Pea (unflavored) 27g / 30g None 1 ingredient; still a legume
Naked Rice 25g / 30g None 1 ingredient; low lysine alone
Naked Whey Isolate ~30g / scoop None on checked label Dairy; sunflower lecithin

Flavored mass-market blends often add gums. Unflavored single-ingredient powders are the easiest gum-free starting point. For fillers beyond gums (maltodextrin, silica in some formulas), use clean protein powder.

Simple ingredients vs gum-free

"Best protein powder with simple ingredients" and "protein powder without fillers" overlap with gum-free, but not perfectly. Lecithin is not a gum. Monk fruit is not a filler. Read the full list. The short version

Protein powder without gums is usually an unflavored single-ingredient tub, or a short flavored label you verify. Cantein is gum-free by formula. Naked's one-ingredient powders are the common budget checks.
